Curriculum

HSADSM’s curriculum is built on a strong STEM-focused foundation that reflects Concept Schools’ commitment to preparing students for success in college, careers, and an increasingly global society. By combining best practices in math and science education with a standards-based, college-preparatory approach, the school empowers students to meet high academic expectations while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Over the past two decades, Concept Schools has developed a comprehensive curriculum that includes structured unit plans, aligned assessments, and flexible instructional strategies that allow teachers to meet the diverse needs of their students.

Standards-Aligned Instruction

Aligned fully with Iowa learning standards, the HSADSM curriculum ensures that all students receive rigorous instruction in core subjects such as English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. High-quality curricular resources—including HMH Into Reading, Go Math, Studies Weekly, and Mystery Science—support consistent and effective instruction. Teachers collaborate closely using curriculum maps and pacing guides, while Concept Schools Curriculum Directors provide ongoing support, professional development, and annual updates based on data and feedback.

Whole-Child Learning Environment

Beyond academics, HSADSM takes a whole-child approach by fostering a supportive and engaging school culture. Students benefit from extended learning opportunities such as clubs, sports, competitions, cultural events, and enrichment programs that go beyond the traditional school day. With smaller class sizes and a student-centered environment, educators are able to personalize instruction and use data-driven strategies to ensure every student’s success.

College & Career Readiness

HSADSM also prioritizes college and career readiness alongside equitable access to opportunities for all students. Beginning in middle school, students receive individualized guidance, college preparation resources, and exposure to real-world experiences such as internships and career fairs. By maintaining high expectations, providing targeted support, and promoting inclusivity, HSADSM ensures that every student is equipped with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to thrive in the future.
